Banyu Bangle by Lievik Atelier Recognized at Good Design Indonesia 2024

Lievik Atelier is proud to share that Banyu Bangle received the Good Design recognition at Good Design Indonesia (GDI) 2024, a design appreciation programme organized by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia (Kementerian Perdagangan RI). The recognition marks an important milestone in our exploration of contemporary jewellery, traditional Indonesian metalworking, and the relationship between craftsmanship and design.
Developed in collaboration with metalsmith Eldine Syifa, Banyu Bangle brings together the organic movement of water, the intricate patterns of pamor, and the possibilities of contemporary wearable design.
Banyu Bangle: The Movement of Water in Metal
Banyu means water in Javanese. Its movement became the starting point for this collection: a reflection on how water flows, adapts, and continuously shapes its surroundings.
The Banyu Bangle translates this natural movement into a wearable form. Its silhouette follows the flowing lines of pamor, allowing the pattern and structure of the metal to inform the design. Rather than simply decorating the surface, the material becomes an integral part of the jewellery's visual language.
The result is a dialogue between the fluidity of nature and the precision of handcraft. Through the bangle, an element as familiar as water becomes a source of exploration in contemporary Indonesian jewellery design.

Exploring Pamor: A Traditional Indonesian Metalworking Technique
At the heart of Banyu Bangle is pamor, a traditional Indonesian pattern-welding technique in which different metals are forged together to create distinctive patterns. The process combines material knowledge, physical skill, and an understanding of how metal responds to heat and force.
For Lievik Atelier, pamor is more than a decorative technique. It is a way of understanding material as something that carries traces of transformation. Each pattern emerges through the forging process, creating a visual character shaped by both intention and the behaviour of the metal.
In Banyu Bangle, the lines of pamor become part of the design's movement, connecting traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary approach to form. The collection explores how an established metalworking practice can continue to evolve through new interpretations, without losing its connection to the process that gives it meaning.
Lievik Atelier × Eldine Syifa: Craftsmanship in Dialogue
Banyu Bangle was developed through a collaboration between Lievik Atelier and Eldine Syifa, bringing together different perspectives on metal, form, and craftsmanship.
The collaboration explores the relationship between organic inspiration and the structural qualities of metal. The movement of water informs the form, while the pamor pattern introduces rhythm, texture, and a distinctive material identity.
This approach reflects Lievik Atelier's broader practice: bridging traditional handcraft and contemporary design through experimentation, material exploration, and thoughtful making. We see craftsmanship not as a fixed set of techniques, but as an evolving language through which new ideas can take shape.

Recognized by Good Design Indonesia 2024
Good Design Indonesia is a design recognition and promotion programme organized by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia through the Indonesia Design Development Center (IDDC). The programme celebrates product design and encourages Indonesian designers and businesses to strengthen the competitiveness of their products through design innovation.
The Good Design recognition for Banyu Bangle is an important encouragement for Lievik Atelier to continue developing work that connects Indonesian craft traditions with contemporary creative practice.
For us, this achievement is not only about recognition. It also reflects the potential of traditional metalworking to participate in today's design landscape, creating objects that carry cultural knowledge while responding to contemporary ways of wearing, experiencing, and understanding design.

Continuing to Transform Tradition
Banyu Bangle represents an ongoing exploration of how Indonesian metal craftsmanship can move between heritage and contemporary expression. Through the relationship between water-inspired forms and the patterns of pamor, the collection reflects our belief that tradition remains alive when it is continually explored, questioned, and transformed.
Lievik Atelier extends its gratitude to everyone involved in the development of Banyu Bangle and to Good Design Indonesia for this recognition.
We look forward to continuing this journey through new collaborations, material experiments, and designs that bring traditional craftsmanship into dialogue with the present.
