process overview

  • 1. Discuss, Sketch & Explore

We start with a casual discussion about what you’d like to make. You’ll see a selection of sample pieces and possible forms from the workshop, then make a simple sketch of your own idea. We’ll talk through what is possible within the session and help you work out the basic shape and construction.

  • 2. Meet the Silver

Before working with the material, we introduce you to silver and how it behaves. You’ll learn the difference between fine silver (999) and sterling silver (925), why purity matters, and how we calculate the amount of silver needed for your piece.

  • 3. Weigh, Calculate & Prepare

Your silver is weighed and calculated before we begin. This gives you a better understanding of exactly how much material goes into your jewelry and how the material is accounted for throughout the process.

  • 4. Smelt the Silver

Time for the fire. We melt the silver and pour it into an ingot mold, transforming it into a solid piece.

  • 5. Roll & Form

The ingot goes through the rolling mill, gradually becoming sheet or wire depending on your design. You’ll learn how to control the thickness and prepare the silver for making.

  • 6. Cut, Shape & Build

Now your sketch starts becoming real. You’ll saw, file, bend, texture, and shape the silver according to your design, building the different parts of your piece.

  • 7. Solder & Assemble

Once the components are ready, we bring them together through soldering. You’ll learn how to position the pieces, apply flux and solder, and control the heat to create clean joins.

  • 8. Refine & Finish

The piece is refined through filing, sanding, and other finishing techniques. We clean up the edges and surface before polishing the silver.

  • 9. Final Weigh-In

Before you leave, we weigh the finished piece again. This final check confirms how much silver was used in the finished jewelry. The workshop price includes up to 3 grams of silver; any additional silver above 3 grams is charged separately based on the final weight.

  • 10. Your Piece Is Ready

From the first sketch to melting, rolling, shaping, soldering, and polishing—you’ve taken silver through the entire making process and leave with a piece of jewelry made by your own hands.
